black trenchcoats and cat shoes

She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that's best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes: Thus mellow'd to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

today was an interesting day in art.

As usual, wednesdays are when we get to wake up late, pack ourseves into the auditorium in the art studio, and watch movies/listen to sound art. Today was a little different. We listened to little 30 seconds clips of different sound artists/music artists peices. The First was by Yoko Ono which involved second blips of a child screaming. At a high volume and in an unexpected manner most of hte class almost flew out of their chairs when it started. Second was some very nice techno by a band who's name I missed. Thrid I beleive was some random sound art that was unpleasent on the ears. Fourth I beleive was by some metal sound art band that wasnt bad at all. Fifth was a song called carpenters song which involved a piano playing to a person hammering. Sixth was a song by aphex twin which I really liked (experimental techno). Seventh was a heart beat along with what sounded like a woman building up to orgasim (turns out it was taken from a horror flick). Eight was a nice mellow peice that was recorded live in some restaurant (the clinking of glasses and sound of people talking in the background braught me back to brunch at Sun and Surf beach club). They also played Toxic by britney spears which got a cringe out of the group, lol.

The most interesting lesson learned in this lesson was that different pithes of sounds effect peoples reactions. Also the majority's reaction also effects the reaction of every one else. After the interesting sound fest Ted began talking about digital and analouge sound (basically the difference between a recording on a cd and a recording on a record). He was talking about how people, after listening to a cds for a long time they can only listen to two or three at a times because it wears doen your body. The reason is a high pitch feedback that is the result of the recording. Animals cna hear it (an example he gave us was his cat would leave his studio when he played a cd and return when he switched to record). He started talking about how a cd is flat and lifeless compared to the sound of a real record. In a way he is right. I've listened to many records at other peoples houses and listend to the same songs on mp3 or cd and they really can't compare to album.

This all led up to a sound art project that we are doing in groups of 8. It's due next wed so it should be interesting (especially since one of our members is leaving to go visit his chica back home for v-day).

Speaking of which I'm contemplating on doing something on V-day (not drinking just chilling) just so I can concentrate more on having fun then the fact I can't be with Dan for valentines day. Of course though, I plan on webcamming it up with him. Hmmmm, romantic dinner by webcam....gotta try that ^^***.

I really can't wait to see him. It's going to be amazing holding him again.
